The Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) brings together NGOs, trade unions, and 37 companies to identify and promote good practices in the implementation of codes of conduct, including monitoring and independent verification.
The ETI has developed a multi-sectoral code of conduct based on International Labour Organization standards. It includes provisions for a living wage, freedom of association, and security of employment.
ETI member companies are required to submit annual reports on their progress in meeting code requirements. ETI also has a worker and third-party complaint mechanism to address problems in a member company's supply chain.
ETI conducts joint research and experimental projects on best practices in code implementation, purchasing practices, and auditing methods.
