Sweatshop education and action kits

June 19, 2000

Between 1995 and 2010, MSN acted as resource for educational and campaign work in Canada on sweatshop abuses in the Canadian and global garment industries. As part of that work, MSN produced two education/action kits for people interested in becoming involved in the movement to end sweatshop abuses.

The kits included action tools on how to research the labour behind the label, write letter to brands, design a Sweatshop Fashion Show, and organize a store action, and issue sheets on how our clothes are made, child labour, and company codes of conduct.

The kits were used in national and regional train-the-trainer workshops organized by MSN and our coalition partners, and by students, teachers, faith groups, and trade unionists across Canada to organize actions in their communities.

Published in 1997, the Wear Fair Action Kit was a joint project of MSN, the Jesuit Centre for Social Faith and Justice, and the Toronto-based Labour Behind the Label Coalition.

Published by MSN in 2000, Stop Sweatshops: and Education/Action Kit was an updated version of the original kit.

The 1997 Wear Fair Action Kit is at the Clara Thomas Archives and Special Collections at York University.
